Default Gladiatorial Arena

Premise:

This idea, constructed from bits and pieces of some already in game concepts and some ideas from the board. So some of this might seem familier.

The first part is the arena itself:

The arena would be a testing ground for both PvE and PvP players working together. Each in their seperate "element" (PvP or PvE) but relying on each other.

Each team would have a team of 8 players. (That can be formed prior to entering.) Once inside, a team must send 4 members through the portal leading to the PvE challenge, and 4 leading to the PvP contest. (The portals lock after the four members enter, to prevent uneven distribution.)

Now, the first thing you'll ask is how would NPCs compare in challenge to PvP players. Simple, what they lack in IQ they would make up for in randomization and numbers.

The PvP players would fight each other in a special area littered with various types of traps and high-ground/low-ground situations. There is Death Penalty but the match continues until all players have 60% Death Penalty and can not recieve a morale boost. Rez occurs every 10 seconds.

A PvE team benefits from a good PvP team by reducing the number of foes in the next incoming wave by 1 for every kill scored by their PvP team, max -4 foes.

The PvE players would fight in a wide open arena with few places to hide, facing 5 waves of enemy NPCs of various builds/classes. Each wavewould have 6-10 foes(determined by the PvP team), all lvl 20+. Set at 3 minute intervals you'd have to beat the previous wave quickly and efficiently, or get swamped. Due to the randomization, gimick builds would be pretty much worthless and teams would have to favor versitile, generic builds.

The PvP team benefits from a good PvE team by earning +6% morale when a wave is defeated. (This ties into the "recieve a morale boost" from the section above.)

"What if a PvE team dies? What if both die?"

If one of the PvE team dies it is recorded how many waves were completed, and they are given 1,000 gold, and 100 Balth. Faction for each completed wave. Then at the next 2 minute mark on the arena timer they are removed, and the other PvE team recieves 300 extra Balth. Faction for each wave they complete after the other team died.

If both PvE teams die, i.e. one dies right after the other in the same two minute mark, the team with the most completed waves gets an extra 200 gold and Balth. Faction before leaving. If it's a tie, each team recieves 100 gold and Balth. faction extra.

"What if both PvE teams complete all attacking waves?"

Then the winner is decided by which team has the most total death penalty, or who completed the final wave faster.

"What happens when a PvP team loses?"

When a PvP team loses, they are granted 30 Balth. Faction for each kill they score. The winning team gain the same +150 extra faction for victory.

"What happens when a PvE team and a PvP team on the same side are both victorious?"

In such cases all members from the PvE side recieve a token that can be traded in at a rewards NPC in the lobby for 250 of a common crafting material, 25 of a rare crafting material, or a just short of perfect weapon mod of their choice. (Jadeite/Amber Excluded.)

All members of the PvP team recieve a token worth 2k Balth Faction, OR a once per token opportunity to reroll your PvP character, without actually having to reroll it. Again traded in at a rewards NPC in the Arena lobby.

I hope that was all clear. I know it was long.

Very interesting idea, and I like the general premise. I'm sure others will barge in here complaining that such a mode would ruin the economy, etc...

Anyway, /signed for some sort of arena like this that effectively combines both forms of gameplay with appropriate rewards.
